I Hear You; Do You Hear Me? - Teaching in a Racially Diverse Classroom

Content Page

Tegrity refers to a method of transforming classroom/seminar  presentations to e-learning delivered over the Internet. Tegrity provides audio, video, and PowerPoint access. The first Tegrity presentation from Dr. Tuitt's weekend seminar consists of PowerPoint slides that give you an introduction to his seminar. (There is no audio in this segment due to technical problems with recording equipment)

On the following pages you will find:

A "Points to Ponder" page allows access to four Tegrity discussions between Dr.Tuitt and the seminar participants.  Each discussion includes three elements: audio-visual-slides. (Using earphones as you listen to the Tegrity presentations allows for better audio. There were some technical problems with recording equipment.)

The "Readings" page provides you with a vast amount of information about Seven Principles for Good Practice in Undergraduate Education.  Each principle provides you with a link to further discuss the topics.

The "Activity" page offers you a guide to plan your course with a multicultural classroom in mind, learn how to intervene tactfully and effectively in racially charged classroom situations, and suggestions.  These ideas are followed by a series of questions on which you can reflect.

The quiz in this tutorial asks you to reflect on several questions that are appropriate to your classroom culture. It also brings you back to the original question posed by Dr. Tuitt. There are also true and false statements for you to answer and test your knowledge.
